Snacks from Snikiddy! Back to School Extravaganza!

 

Once you're no longer distracted by the name, or at least figure out how to pronounce it, you can focus on the crunchy, tasty, healthy goodness of these new snacks.

 

Introducing:  Snikiddy. Founded in 2006 by a mother and daughter team (love that), Snikiddy is "a brand of great tasting, family-friendly snack foods made from simple, wholesome and real ingredients." Snikiddy comes in such tempting flavors as pizza puffs (what kid doesn't love pizza?), grilled cheese puffs, and my personal favorite, chocolate chocolate bites (duh).  They've managed to pack in the flavor, while eliminating the yucky stuff like trans fat, preservatives, and hydrogenated oils. Fewer calories and fat than other brands, and made with all natural, organic ingredients. Guilt-free snacking, the American way. No wonder they've been featured on The View and Rachel Ray.

 

I know you're just as curious about how they came up with the name Snikiddy, as you are about the snacks they sell. Cute story ahead: "Snikiddy® is a shortened (and let’s face it, easier to say) form of the word persnickety, which means choosy or picky. Growing up, Janet (Mary’s mom) and her siblings were known around school as the Snikiddy kids (a badge they wore proudly) because they always ate healthy lunches. Their mom (Grandma), ahead of her time with her passion for good health, would pack their lunch boxes full of locally grown organic produce and very simple foods. A teacher once referred to them as being persnickety and the kids’ version of the word (snikiddy) stuck. Grandma’s passion for healthy eating was obviously contagious. It was passed from generation to generation and in 2006 Janet and Mary founded Snikiddy®."  

 

OK, am I the only person wondering what that teacher would think now? Hey Lady, call me persnickety all you want! I'll be laughing all the way down the snack aisle.

 

Snikiddy (I just love saying that name!) sent us samples of their various Puffs and Bites. The snacks were all tasty, crunchy and fresh, and the bag was an ample size. As a mom with a kid who eats every couple of hours, it's relieving to have a healthier option (and a snack that I'm willing to munch on too!).
