My insides are feelings all warm and tingly, and no, this time it's not because of chocolate (I haven't gotten to my daily dose yet). It's because of comments. Actually, it's lots and LOTS of comments, on three of my favorite posts: about the goofy antics of our husbands, sex education with our kids (sigh), and how long is too long to breastfeed (middle school, anyone?). Today I am the featured blogger on the ultra-fabulous site, SITS. It is a group of bloggers committed to supporting one another by leaving comments, and they have swarmed onto the Playground with something to say! The experience makes me feel like I'm part of the popular crowd in school and everyone wants to talk to me. Except in this crowd, all the girls are nice.
If you're a blogger, you know the importance and exhilaration of comments. Confirmation that somebody out there is reading, relating, or laughing with you. Maybe even laughing at you, but hey, at least you know they read that post that you typed with one hand, while you nursed the baby in the other. Even if the comment is just one word, it's like a stamp of recognition. Truth be told, it gets a little discouraging - no VERY discouraging - when you see another blog that has 40 comments about the family's decision to switch from plain Cheerios, to Honey Nut Cheerios. And your witty and informative post has no responses (insert annoying cricket sounds here). If you're not a blogger, then you can relate it to that meaningful and personal email that you sent to your group of friends. You keep checking your account every hour to see if anyone has reacted. As they day goes on, you start checking every 30 minutes. Finally, you're wondering if the email went through in the first place - darn computer glitches. Hellooooo?
So, I'm going to bask in the glory of this bloggy love today with my "sitstahs." Wanna check out what the chicks are saying? Read their comments here, and maybe you'll feel inspired to leave your own (you know, other than on the Giveaways)!

I can completely relate to your observation about comments. It can be frustrating, but I just try to keep focused on the writing. In the end, if the content is good, the comments eventually come.

So true about the comments! I am mellowing out a little though. I used to be completely obsessed with how many comments I was getting. Now I just roll with the punches.

How cool are you to post up awards to your commenting champions??? Seriously, I think that's hot. As a blog idea, hot. You know what I mean. And what you said about 40 comments regarding Cheerios? It's almost like those who leave the comments on THOSE blogs are scavenging for the popular girl's invite to a sleepover or something. I just found your blog today, as I am new to SITS, and I am already addicted! I'm not a mom yet, but I am going to be a step-mom on August 14, 2010. :) We have his girls here for the summer, so I'm looking for advice already!
